Why Do Musicians Must Have a Website in 2022?

Over the past few years, there have been countless cases of musicians becoming "popular online" before becoming big stars of the music scene. Whether it's SoundCloud rappers/singers like the late XXXTentacion and Post Malone or acclaiming YouTube pop sensations like Justin Bieber and Ed Sheeran, you'd be forgiven for thinking that as long as you have the presence and strong online social network, there really is no need to have a real website in 2022. But you are wrong.

While social media and streaming sites are an integral part of a successful band or musician's online presence, even superstars have found fame without a website of their own. They were successful.

You control your website

There are many reasons for this, and most of them apply and benefit those who are just starting out on their musical journey, as well as those who have already achieved incredible success. The main reason, and the reason most other people follow, is that your website is entirely your own platform. Your command center. Your control tower. You control exactly what's there, and sometimes more importantly, what isn't.

Have your own brand

You control the aesthetic, the interactivity, how it relates to the rest of the music industry and the wider digital world. For one, it can offer significant opportunities to make money selling music and merchandise, while for others it can be a purely artistic endeavor; in essence, an online rendition or extension of a concept album, with little or nothing about traditional or contemporary music marketing.

It is a space that you control and will continue to control. You do not have to accept the whims of any third party platform or business development. You won't suddenly find that the UI has changed without warning and that your page is currently being used to promote other artists you are not associated with or to sell something else entirely.

Another reason it's wise to have a website as a musician is that just because The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes and 5 Seconds of Summer are popular via YouTube and Vine doesn't mean everyone, no matter how talented his, will be discovered in a similar way. That's not to say you shouldn't download music from YouTube, SoundCloud and the like either, but there's a central headquarters where people can search or click on your social and streaming channels. will help brands, managers and agents. Learn more about you (everything you wish they knew!), find details about live appearances and tour dates and of course, find more music.

Having a website is prestige in 2022

Plus, a decent site lets industry professionals know that you're serious about your music and your career. And guess? People who work hard in the music industry love working with artists who also love working hard! Promoting an upcoming band or musician with a website makes the lives of publishers, managers, and agents much easier. Likewise, a website is the perfect place to host an EPK (electronic journalism toolkit), which also makes it easier for journalists and easier for journalists to cover you, too. guess? That's right. The more likely you are to be featured in their posts.

Websites are also great for nurturing, growing, and keeping your fan base informed, both through the site itself and through email newsletters once you've got their contact details. (through your website!).

So while the streaming and social media platforms that artists sometimes spend a lot of time and energy on are unpopular and unpopular (Myspace, anyone?), a website and the domain belongs to you and only you will stay with you, growing with you and adapting to you, even as your sound evolves from underground hip hop to bubblegum pop. Then to the country. Then back to hip hop.
