Flappingo

Flappingo is a community-based travel platform fully developed by our team.

The core of the project is a hybrid mobile application available on both iOS and Android. The system is also accessible on the web, and we built a dedicated admin panel to support management and operations.

The platform connects users in multiple ways:

• Find hosts, or list yourself as a host
• Travelers can indicate their destinations and find travel companions
• Create events and programs and invite participants
• Join events organized by others
• Organize house swaps, allowing temporary exchange of properties

The platform is available in both Hungarian and English.

Challenges and lessons learned

The project development was not linear. It took about six months to reach a stable, testable version, but processing feedback, implementing changes, and adding new features took almost the same amount of time.

The continuous iteration and intense communication extended the development cycle to roughly one year. This project was a valuable learning experience for us, not only technically but also in project management.

Outcome

The platform launched successfully, gaining over 1,000 users in the first month alone, showing that the concept works and meets real user needs.

Technology and implementation

The mobile app was developed using hybrid technology for simultaneous iOS and Android support.

The system is based on a Next.js application with Capacitor integration for mobile functionality. The admin panel was also developed by us to streamline operations.

The entire platform is hosted on a Workstation environment.

Flappingo is a large-scale, feature-rich platform with a strong focus on the mobile experience. Despite various challenges during development, it resulted in a fully functional, growing system with an active user base from the start.
